I just received the release to share this artwork,
wooden urns hand carved with these pets' images on them to cherish for a
lifetime.
The guardian of these magnificent dogs says, "The only close up picture I had [of Samantha] was just
before she died. I am so thankful for your talent in restoring her face to
its full health and beauty with only my description. Your love of dogs really shows in all the portraits you
have so expertly done for my shelties."
"Preserving these precious pets to enjoy forever is
more rewarding than I can express in words." Judith K. Nelson |

JOURNEY IN JOY! My motto is: Life is for joy! The world is to see! Come along with me! 1. In keeping with that, six days a week I send a one-liner email to anyone who requests it—to ‘jump-start’ the happiest and most productive day possible with some inspiration. There is always room for more ‘journeyers’ so just email me and I’ll be thrilled to welcome you aboard!! 2. Also I send a “prosperity” newsletter as a reminder of what is possible and motivation to stay ‘on track’. Please email me to receive this inspiration also! 3. In addition, I send a monthly ART newsletter sharing my latest creations. I would love to share with you, too. Just email me for this as well. Throughout the years I’ve been blessed with a natural ability to see the positive side of life. Along with this I have been inspired to create a variety of types of fine artwork. Beginning with pencil pet portraits and animal drawings, I also worked in ink. The fine detail I was able to achieve led to the technique of scrimshaw which I’ve also used on wood. Then I was motivated to create in the ‘magical’ medium of eggshells—what a joy! Most recently I’ve been working with digital photography of a variety of subjects including scenery, sunrises, flowers, travel and family. I consider all of this a huge adventure that I’m thrilled to be able to share with others worldwide, perhaps inspiring them to see the world in a new way. Pet Portraits : I love being able to share my pet portrait drawings for many client friends who tell me these works of art are more 'alive' to them than the photographs I use to draw them. Having one or more of my drawings they say keeps the beloved companion with them for many years after they are gone. I get to know the animal or person whose portrait I’m drawing intimately and of course the better I know them the more life-like they become. Some times their inspiration even seems to help me move the pencil or pen on paper, filling the finished artwork with their very spirit! Eggshell Carving : Carving on emu and ostrich eggshells seems to be the ultimate of fine art forms. It takes understanding the texture, depth and seeing in three dimensions to make a lifelike piece of fine artwork. It’s as if I’ve actually got my hands in that very fine eggshell and am sculpting. There are layers of color in the emu eggshell which go from very dark green into an inside layer of pure white. You can imagine that these layers are very thin and require a special high speed carving tool along with a very steady hand. The emu eggshell is so colorful there is no need to add any sort of artificial color. The ostrich eggshell has as many layers as well, although much thicker and they are only shades of ivory and white. Therefore the eggshell carvings I create become magnificent works of fine art when a light is inserted into them showing all the intricate shading and detail that I’m able to capture—whether it’s a pet portrait, animal, person, flower or scene. Drawing patterns for all types of eggshell carvers has been an especially satisfying enterprise. It is a joy for me to be able to inspire other egg carvers not only with my patterns but also with my personal attention to try and often excel in this thrilling & unique fine art eggshell carving. Scrimshaw : One of the first American folk arts, scrimshaw, was what inspired me to begin my art adventure in earnest back in the 1980s. It is a tedious method of scratching a design onto a surface and filling it with color. I have most recently used this technique on wood to create priceless urns with pet portraits on them for a lasting and cherished memento of people’s beloved pets from cats to horses. Photography : When I picked up my first real camera it felt like another natural and familiar way to capture the adventures of my family, scenery including flowers, animals and some inspiring sunrises and sunsets during my foreign and domestic travels. I was motivated to preserve my favorite family and travel photographs in collages finding that I prefer viewing them this way rather than in albums. Now I am also inspired to preserve these precious photos of family, pets and travel adventures on CDs and or DVDs not only for safe keeping but for easier viewing enjoyment as well.
Judy :
Drawing, pets and animals, travel adventures, finding ways to be creative and seeing the positive side of life, hopefully inspiring others to do the same, have always been a part of who I am. It seems that I was always able to look at an animal, pet, person or even scenery and capture a life-like image using almost any medium, from pencil and paper to eggshells and even wood.
