Scrimshaw Gallery

Back in the ‘80’s a polished beef bone previously belonging to my dog became my medium for creating one of the first American folk arts—scrimshaw. First done by whaling fleets over 150 years ago, I enjoyed this tedious method of scratching miniature images onto a surface and filling with color. I prefer using mediums other than the typical ivory so click here to see my scrimshawed artwork on legal ivory, egg shell, jet and even wood. Prices vary because as with all of my originals, these are one of a kind pieces and require their own individual care and attention.

IMPORTANT!

  • Customer pays for shipping.
  • A deposit of 50% of total price is required before any commissioned work is started and will be deducted from the balance.
  • Final Payment is due upon completion and satisfaction of the finished work. Applicable sales tax will be added.
  • Any matting and framing or mounting to be done by customer, unless arrangements are made
  • All photographs and reference material supplied by client will be returned when project is completed.
